Chateau Tanunda
Overview
Location
The Barossa Valley, acknowledged as Australia’s most famous wine
producing region is home to Château Tanunda Estate, an icon of the area.
It is located some 500 metres off the main road of Tanunda and only an
hours drive from Adelaide.
Château Tanunda is one of Australia’s largest and oldest Château’s,
established in 1890; the Château celebrated 120 years in 2010. It truly
is one of the best wine estates of the world. Château Tanunda Estate is
the birthplace of the Barossa wine industry, where the first plantings
(1845) and the first winery (1848) were established. The Geber family is
the proud custodians of this great icon and its heritage. This venue
provides beautiful views of the surrounding vineyards and the nearby
Barossa Valley Ranges.
Service and Experience
Château Tanunda was built into a hill, originally to provide a cool
area for wine storage prior to refrigeration. Today the cellar door is
situated on the ground floor of the split level building, a large space
filled with wine barrels which are used in daily winery operations. We
can offer guests the opportunity to visit and experience a working
winery during vintage within our Basket Press Winery, play croquet on
our Croquet Green, visit the Barossa Small Winemakers Centre, located
within our cellar door, experience the ambience of the Long Table Lunch
or Dinner, dine and dance in our Grand Ballroom with a sit down dinner
or cocktail party, or just sit back and relax on the Barossa Ranges
Terrace watching the world go by.
